We can't remember if Grant proved to be the best fisherman on his fishing trip with his dad and Grandpa but he was pretty pumped to catch this big walleye. There wasn't a lot of fishing yesterday as we had multiple storms roll through with heavy rain. Today looks like...

Monday June 17, 2024
Well we're a day late in wishing all the dad's a Happy Father's Day. We did manage to wish this hard working dad a happy day. And he'd like to introduce Scarlett Ascott, Alex and Jared's daughter.
Friday June 14, 2024
A quiet, calm morning. The ducks are enjoying this morning as well. We actually managed to have our morning coffee on the deck. Another busy day is ahead of us, people coming and going.
Wednesday June 12, 2024
While out for a walk with the dogs I spotted 2 lady slippers. Lady slippers are a subfamily of orchids. Although there are yellow lady slippers we only have the pink variety. And I don't always see them year after year. Despite the cold, rainy day yesterday guests got...
Tuesday June 11, 2024
Seriously, do we have to have the fireplace on? Absolutely! It's a nasty day out there. Cloudy, rainy, windy and cold. But I have noticed a few brave souls are out trying their best to stay warm and dry and catch some fish.
Monday June 10, 2024
Wyatt is in training mode to one day be the guy to take you across the portage! It was a busy week and weekend. We celebrated Wyatt's 3rd birthday on Saturday and we acknowledged that Don turned a year older on Sunday. We were actually in a frost advisory last night...
Tuesday June 4, 2024
Yichen was excited to catch and release this lovely walleye in 40 feet of water while trout fishing! We have a cloudy day, a little bit of fog/mist on the lake with an east wind. We might see some rain later this afternoon.
Saturday June 1, 2024
How did June get here so quickly? This group, which includes 3 generations is likely contemplating how the fishing was as well as how quick time goes by. Looks like we'll have a pleasant day, another great day to be out and about.
Friday May 31, 2024
The wind must have picked up last night as this dock broke from its chain. Sure glad it didn't damage any of the motors. We're not sure how we're going to find the chain, someone might have to go swimming. Looks like today is going to be a great day to be out on the...
Thursday May 30, 2024
Finn was practicing his fishing skills while staying at one of our Pettit cabins. He caught this trophy sized bass, that might even be one for the records. A pleasant start to the morning as we enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck. It's a trip to Sandbeach today to...
Wednesday May29, 2024
Kevin caught and released this beautiful walleye this weekend. It's a proactive move to release the big ones back to the lake as they are the breeding stock for the future, this ensures a healthy fish population. It was a cool morning, mist rising off the lake as the...
Tuesday May 28, 2024
We really don't think the beavers were intentionally using our dock. But this dock was found in Sandbeach Creek and came from cabin 1. The dock did a great job of maneuvering the bends in the creek. Looks like today may be a pleasant day even if there are some clouds...
Sunday May 26, 2024
Charlie's happy with his walleye catch. Today looks like a fine day to be out on the water. It's finally sunny, however there is a wind, guess we'll call that the walleye chop.
Saturday May 25, 2024
Despite some nasty weather Tom and group managed to catch a few fish while staying at our Pettit 2 cabin. We had more rain and wind yesterday. This morning is misty and chilly but no rain, it is windy though. We're hoping we get to see the sun and have some warmth...
Thursday May 23, 2024
Creeks and rivers are running high after all the rain we received over the last 36 hours. Don had to use his hip waders to check his minnow traps that were in this system. It was too windy to venture into Sandbeach yesterday so he's heading there today. He's positive...
Wednesday May 22, 2024
Don's commute to work is often a relaxing experience, not much traffic to contend with. Today however, he has to contend with copious amounts of rain. We've been in a rainfall warning since yesterday and it has been extended yet again until 9pm tonight. We are in a...
Tuesday May 21, 2024
A gorgeous calm morning but there are some ominous looking clouds on the horizon and Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement. We might get a lot of rain and wind. We'll take the rain but can do without the wind.
Monday May 20, 2024
Fishing season has officially started and Wyatt caught his first fish off the dock, not a walleye but he was pretty excited none the less. Windy conditions yesterday made fishing challenging. We have some much needed rain this morning.
Monday May 6, 2024
It's a coffee on the deck kind of morning. There were plenty of birds on the lake this morning, we even heard sandhill cranes. The frogs were croaking loudly last night as well. Ticks and mosquitoes are also around.
Tuesday April 30, 2024
Well today looks a lot better than yesterday. The snow has moved on and most of it has melted we're grateful for the precipitation. Don and Connor are heading to the outposts today to finish getting water and docks hooked up.
Monday April 29, 2024
April is staying true to the saying, in like a lamb out like a lion. And yes that is snow at one point you couldn't see the island and it will make for a very sloppy yard. The forecast suggests we will have a few days of unsettled, rainy weather. This makes it...
Saturday April 27, 2024
The ice at Pettit #1 also did a number on the dock so Don has some extra work to do there. As predicted we have had some rain and it's still lightly raining. We certainly do welcome the rain now the grass and trees will "pop". Looking forward to seeing all the...
Friday, April 26, 2024
Don and Connor got up to Mount Lake yesterday to get water hooked up, the spring cleaning will be done next week. There was still ice on the north end of Mount Lake but with the strong wind this morning that will be gone by now. This photo is at Pettit #1. The ice...
Wednesday April 24, 2024
Last night's full moon, unfortunately I missed a photo of the moon rising as it was a pink moon. It's a cool morning, a west wind but sunny. Yesterday, Don took a ride to the outposts but could only get to the middle of Pettit as there is still ice in the larger part...
Tuesday April 23, 2024
It's a cool, cloudy and windy morning. We got the main dock and a couple of boats in the water. Yesterday, Don got water hooked up in most of the Manion Lake cabins. What a difference from last year when we were digging out of 30cm of snow.
Sunday April 21, 2024
A week ago the lake was covered with ice, today we're enjoying seeing the sun sparkling off the lake. We're planning on putting in the main dock today. We'll also get a boat in the water and go for a ride.
Friday April 19, 2024
Yes, that's a skiff of snow you see on the beach. We had a bit last night and we'll see some flurries throughout the day. I think we usually see snow after the ice goes out - nothing to worry about, we'll take the precipitation.
Thursday April 18, 2024
Nice to see the sun sparkling off the lake this morning. There's just a bit of ice still floating around in our bay. Now it's time to get the docks in the water, that will happen soon.
Wednesday April 17, 2024
And just like that, the ice is gone. That happened quickly yesterday. Of course the strong wind really helped move the ice we could see white caps on the open parts of the water. It's still windy this morning, cloudy and misty, 4C.
Tuesday April 16, 2024
There's a lot more open water today and the ice that is there is very mushy. Plus 5C this morning with a strong east wind that will help move the ice. If we get any rain the ice will sure to be gone within the next few days. And then the work will begin.
Friday April 12, 2024
The lake this morning, it doesn't look as black but that's likely because it's cloudy. Temperature is above freezing, +4C but there's a strong wind so it feels colder. Getting some work done around main camp today and waiting for ice to go out.
Thursday April 11, 2024
The lake this morning. It's looking darker and you can see it crystalizing along the shoreline. I heard robins singing merrily this morning and beginning to see the shoots of green grass.
Wednesday April 10, 2024
Our morning view, a bit foggy but that will clear as the sun gets higher. The lake continues to look darker and it's opening up along the shoreline. We had a bit of rain yesterday, there's not a lot of rain in the forecast just yet. Guests will have be extra careful...
Tuesday April 9, 2024
This is our view of the lake this morning, notice how the ice is becoming darker. We had a lovely weekend with friends, we managed to get our fishing before ice became too dangerous. The snowmachines are put away for the season. And now we wait for the ice to go out.
Wednesday April 3, 2024
Even the horses love a good sunny spring day. I've never seen the horses lay on the beach, but Bailey decided to enjoy to do just that on Monday. Yesterday was another pleasant day, the snow is beginning to melt. Minus 1C and windy this morning, looking for a high of...
Tuesday April 2, 2024
Allison convinced us to take advantage of the lovely weather yesterday to join her for some trout fishing before she had to head back home. I caught a trout that coughed up this little trout. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised to know that they will eat their own...
Monday April 1, 2024
It was a successful weekend of fishing, ended off with fishing till dark, a gorgeous night. It's a colder morning, minus 10C but once again temperatures will rise to above freezing. Our guests leave today so there won't be much fishing now.
Sunday March 31, 2024
Wishing everyone a Happy Easter.
Saturday March 30, 2024
Yesterday was that kind of day - shorts and t-shirt. Trout fishing was good as it was a wonderful sunny day. Conditions have changed again, it's cloudy but above freezing, on and off snow flurries.
Friday March 29, 2024
Last night's sunset while one of our guests was out fishing. This morning it was minus 19C with plenty of sun and there's hoar frost in the trees, making for a beautiful morning. Temperatures will rise to above freezing this afternoon perfect time to go fishing!
Thursday March 28, 2024
Finally, after 3 days of snow we get to see a glimpse of the sun. Now we can go back to using snowmachines instead of ATV's to go ice fishing. Still plenty of ice too.
Wednesday March 27, 2024
We are finally out of the snowfall warning but it is still snowing. When it does warm up it's going to be awfully messy. Don spent most of yesterday plowing snow and he's back at it again this morning.
Tuesday March 26, 2024
This past weekend it was best to use ATV's when out on the ice. We've had significant amount of snow so we're sure you can use your snowmachine if you want to be out on the ice. However, you need to be very careful of pressure ridges, there could be open water...
Monday March 25, 2024
Our view this morning, as predicted. We're in a snowfall warning until late this evening, we could see anywhere from 15-30 cm. We do need the precipitation though.
Sunday March 24, 2024
The ice continues to be moving, you can hear a quiet rumble this morning it's either the ice or the water. This section of dock that is attached to the rock on the shore continues to be pushed up. You can see more pressure ridges forming out on the lake, There's a new...
