A shot of a Mount Lake, Canadian sunset on July 1st, Canada Day. A day to recognize Canada as a nation and a day to acknowledge that we are on Treaty Three Territory, home of the Anishinaabe Nation.

This walleye was one of many that was "CPR'd" by this group. CRP - Catch, Photo, Release a great phrase and an even more wonderful practice. We've had 2 days of rain, in the last 48 hours we've had a total of 28mm, but boy does the ground soak that up. We still...
Wednesday June 28, 2023
We don't have monster walleye but we do have some large, healthy walleye and they are just as fun to catch. We'll have a little cooler day today so maybe time for some outside work before the heat sets back in again on Thursday.
Tuesday June 27, 2023
Keith and his group enjoyed some fine trout fishing while staying at our Mount Lake Outpost. Yesterday warmed up to 28C and turned into yet another busy day. Don has a few portages this morning before he can decide what else he'll tackle today. We should see another...
Monday June 26, 2023
Fish were biting and catching was fun for a group that was here a last weekend. We finally received some rain, 32.26mm. We actually have some puddles in the yard. The grass and trees have definitely welcomed the moisture. The 15C temperature was a relief from the hot...
Thursday June 22, 2023
Nothing beats a fish fry, fresh fish out of the lake into the pan, delicious. 20C this morning and we are still in the heat warning. Hopefully today will be the last day as thunderstorms are in the forecast. The minnow ponds need some relieve from this heat as well....
Wednesday June 21, 2023
Every once and a while guests hook on to big walleyes, take a picture and release them so they can reproduce and keep the fisheries healthy. Today is the official first day of summer, temperatures are heating up. It's already 25C and suppose to get to 31C again this...
Who doesn't like to fish for bass? There's plenty of bass, big bass in our lake system and they can be so fun to catch. It seemed like lots of guests were up early this morning, perhaps trying to beat the heat that we're expecting this afternoon. I was up early, went...
Monday June 19, 2023
Luke enjoyed his Father's Day out on the water, and among the bass and walleye he also caught and released this huge Northern Pike. We certainly hope all father's enjoyed their day with family or perhaps out fishing. We're in an extreme heat warning for the next 3...
Sunday June 18, 2023
The bass have been active, plentiful and huge so far this season. Who doesn't enjoy watching bass jump out of the water. Shaping up to be a gorgeous day, looking forward to a high of 25C with the slight chance of showers later this afternoon.
Saturday June 17, 2023
Brent had a great time fishing, especially after catching and releasing this huge northern. He and his group enjoyed a few days fishing on Manion Lake catching many walleye, bass and northern. Today is shaping up to be a lovely day, high 24C. There's some smoke in the...
Friday June 16, 2023
John caught and released this beautiful walleye. We so appreciate the big walleyes going back into the waters as they are the breeding stock creating many more experiences for future fishermen and women. It's shaping up to be another lovely day, light winds out of the...
Thursday June 15, 2023
Mike caught and released this 36 inch northern pike while fishing on the Pettit-Mount lake system. There has to be plenty more pike like that lurking in the dark waters since those over 29.5 inches must be released. Another cool morning, 10C with a northeast wind....
Wednesday June 14, 2023
Late yesterday afternoon we had a special air quality issued due to the smoke from forest fires up north. This is what it looked like around 7pm. This morning, we still have smoke in the air but it's not as thick as yesterday. It's a lot cooler today, 10C early...
Tuesday June 13, 2023
A beautiful, cool start to the day, 10C not many mosquitoes so I took the opportunity to have a ride on Willow early this morning. Some of our guests also took advantage of the quiet morning and went out fishing. We have a bit of smoke again in the air today but it's...
Monday June 12, 203
This group wished Don a happy birthday on the weekend. They had another successful week while staying at our Mount Lake outpost catching plenty of fish and sharing lots of stories. Weather has been pleasant, good for getting work done outside. Don is never short of...
Friday June 9, 2023
Today we celebrate two birthdays and these two guys will likely be sharing more ice-cream. Wyatt's birthday was yesterday, he's a big 2 years old and Don moves into another decade - he's 70 years young. As with most days Don has a busy day, he's already checked his...
Thursday June 8, 2023
We have some good bass fishing on our lakes and they can be so much fun to catch. We're enjoying the cooler temperatures but we still haven't received much rain so the Restricted Fire Zone is still in effect.
Wednesday June 7, 2023
Lake trout fishing at it's best! Weather has cooled down considerably, 15C this morning with a good east wind. Today will be a good day for some yard work as those pesty mosquitoes were active last night. Don't forgot your bug spray if you're planning on being out and...
Tuesday June 6, 2023
Received some pictures from a guest who recently stayed at our Sandbeach outpost cabin. They had some good fishing for all species. This is just one of the trout that was caught. Although we are still in a heat wave warning it was a very pleasant day yesterday and a...
Monday June 5, 2023
You don't see this everyday, a pileated woodpecker pecking on a window. We think it's confused, thinking it's reflection is another woodpecker. Yes, fishing has been good, just haven't any pictures. We had a thunderstorm roll through yesterday afternoon but we didn't...
Sunday June 4, 2023
It's been a few days since my last post - it's been a bit busy. This photo was taken last night as the moon was rising. I think the reddish-orange glow is due to either the humidity or wildfires. We have had several hot, humid dry consecutive dry days so we are in a...
Tuesday May 30, 2023
Meet Connor, you'll see him working around camp this summer. But he can't work all the time, so Sunday, we went out and caught our dinner. Our hot days are continuing and so is the mosquito hatch. We're very grateful for the winds today.
Monday May 29, 2023
Jerry caught and released this northern while fishing at Mount Lake. This year he and his group had better weather than some years as one year they had enough snow to build a small snowman. We're experiencing some hot weather but a south wind is keeping things...
Sunday May 28, 2023
You can't fish for walleye all the time. Tom found a nice size bass while fishing on Pettit and Mount lakes. We have some hot weather heading our way so make sure you have your sunscreen with you. And don't forget bug spray, mosquitos love the hot weather as...
Saturday May 27, 2023
First group at Pettit #1 had some successful days of fishing. Weather wasn't too bad for them - some cooler days, some hot days. We have a busy morning ahead of us before we can relax. Looks like it will be a hot day so a reminder to everyone, if you have a campfire...
Thursday May 25, 2023
This photo was taken on Saturday while we were walleye fishing. There was smoke in the air from all the wild fires out west. Although we are not in a fire ban we encourage everyone to be extra cautious with camp fires. We have had some rain and cool days but the bush...
Wednesday May 24, 2023
Someone was excited to be out on the water catching walleye. Someday soon Wyatt will be able to catch one of these himself. We've been busy continuing with spring cleaning and repairs and maintenance, which always seems never-ending. We had some rain yesterday which...
Saturday May 20, 2023
Northern Lights ushered in opening of walleye season. The lake was very calm this morning but now there's a bit of a wind. There's still plenty of work to be done as we've "hit the deck running" once again.
Thursday May 18, 2023
This morning's view just after rain went through the area. We did need the rain, things were beginning to get a little dry. Another busy day around here, still lots of spring items to be checked off the list. Walleye season opens in 2 days - yikes!!
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Do you see the goose in this photo? It is difficult to see her so we ask those who are going through the portage to slow down at the entrance so you don't create a wake. We're sure she is hatching some young ones. Heading back up to outposts today for some more spring...
Tuesday May 16, 2023
This view never gets old for us as we enjoy our morning coffee on the deck. It's a little breezy but 13C and it's expected to warm to 20C today. More spring cleaning and dock work to be done today. Opening of walleye in 4 days!
Saturday May 13, 2023
And just like that the side-by-side is at the portage ready for the summer. Ice is out on Pettit and Mount so this weekend the docks will be put back in place.
Friday May 12, 2023
Ducks take flight as the moon shimmers off the lake early this morning. We have summer like temperatures so Don and I enjoyed our morning coffee on the dock. Don plans on getting the side-by-side to the portage today and then taking a trip up to the outpost cabins....
Thursday May 11, 2023
Main dock was installed yesterday, a sure sign that our season is beginning. We had a very pleasant day yesterday, t-shirt weather and the bugs are starting to arrive. Sometime throughout the night it rained, we got 11.57mm the landscape looks green. Another pleasant...
Wednesday May 10, 2023
And just like that the ice is gone, 3 days earlier than last year. Yesterday afternoon, Don and I put our boat in the water and went for a cruise to the portage. There was a bit of mushy ice at the far end of the lake but we knew that wouldn't last the night. Now to...
Tuesday May 9, 2023
Despite some heavy rain yesterday there's still mushy ice floating around the lake, but there's a lot of open water. We just need a strong wind to move it around, then it would melt completely. Don won't put any docks in until all the ice is gone, not taking a chance...
Monday May 8, 2023
This photo is a little deceiving as there is still ice out in the middle of Manion. There's a huge open area across from the island and with wind and rain the mushy ice will quickly be gone. Since midnight we have received 25.66 mm of rain, good for lake levels.
Sunday May 7, 2023
The ice is looking pretty mushy and we see more open water along shore line and between the islands. 8C this morning with an east wind, that will move the ice around.
Friday May 5, 2023
There was some movement of the ice yesterday. It didn't freeze last night, it's windy this morning and there's rain in the forecast so we may be seeing more open water soon. You can tell the it has opened up between the two islands on Manion. Don's thinking it will...
Thursday May 4, 2023
We had to say goodbye to another great camp dog yesterday. Jasper was the best. Even though he'd bark at you he would never hurt you, he was a camp greeter. Jasper, aka Big Dog, loved laying on the beach, going for boat rides, sitting at the front of the pontoon,...
Wednesday May 3, 2023
Well there was a bit of a change in the lake yesterday and you definitely wouldn't want to walk out on the ice, I think there would be a good chance that you would fall through. It's a much calmer morning but still minus 1C. Temperatures will rebound ready to attack...
Tuesday May 2,2023
The lake is opening up slowly each day although with below freezing temperatures it freezes again at night. We continue to have windy days and nights and we can see openings out in the lake.
Monday May 1, 2023
Despite all the snowstorms (3 in all) April seemed to have flown by and here we are in May. 20 days till the opening of walleye season, yikes! Yesterday was a windy day, out of the north so we actually lost a bit of ice and the lake is looking darker, that's always a...
April 28, 2023
Our view this morning. The lake is beginning to change, we can see darker areas and it's opening up along the beach. WE hope we are over winter like weather and snow storms. The forecast is suggesting we may get some rain so that will help make the snow and ice...
