Photo of the Day

Tuesday February 24, 2026

We have a bit of a grey day. We had some snow overnight and it's still lightly snowing. We haven't had a lot of snow this winter so we actually welcome the accumulation as it will help with water levels in the spring.

Monday February 23, 2026

I took this photo on the weekend, full ring around the sun. I also think that means we're getting a change in weather. Sure enough, it was minus 24C this morning. Don would like to get out to the Island and do some work but it's a little too cold for him.

Sunday February 22, 2026

Sunday February 22, 2026

Don had some help from friends and the tree is off the fish house. Now he can see exactly what damages he has to repair. Looks like the rafters will need to be replaced.

Friday February 20, 2026

Friday February 20, 2026

We had a very windy night and day early this week and it blew this tree down over the fish house. At Christmas time, Don had been thinking he would have to cut that tree down. Now he has to repair a building. Just something more to add to his list.

Wednesday January 7, 2026

Temperatures continue to be very pleasant making for a beautiful landscape. I love days like this. It's another good day to get outside and enjoy the mild weather.

Tuesday January 6, 2026

Tuesday January 6, 2026

We're enjoying some mild temperatures and that's what is creating the hoar frost on the trees. The trees look so pretty. We got some snow the other day so Don will spend some of today plowing snow.

Monday January 5, 2026

Happy New Year! I know, I'm a little late in welcoming the new year but we've been busy with Christmas activities. The "kids" have all gone home, they're back to their respective jobs so now it will be back to business for us. Don has been doing well with his post...

Sunday December 28, 2025

Well, I’m a few days late in wishing everyone a Merry Christmas but we hope you enjoyed the season just as much as we have. We’ve had some very pleasant weather over the last couple of days so we’ve enjoyed being outside with the kids. We’re looking forward to 2026,...

Sunday December 21, 2025

Good morning sunshine. After multiple cloudy days we welcome the sunrise on this Winter Solstice morning. Although today will be the shortest day, longest night we're glad to know the days will now be getting longer. Don is trying his best to be in recovery mode but...

Thursday December 18, 2025

This is our view this morning as we're in a winter storm warning. At times we can't see the island and the snow is blowing sideways. A good day for Don's recovery, maybe he can enjoy a Christmas movie. 🙂

Wednesday December 17, 2025

Wednesday December 17, 2025

I took this photo a few weeks ago. This is the waterfalls you can see from our bridge. There certainly isn't much water going over the falls, evidence that lake levels are low. Don had surgery yesterday to repair a hernia, after a few weeks for recovery he'll be good...

Monday December 15, 2025

Monday December 15, 2025

This little ray of sunshine is likely the only sun we will see for the next couple of days. Temperatures have warmed up and so the clouds have moved in. We expect to be above freezing tomorrow and then we'll see some accumulation of snow.

Saturday December 13, 2025

Saturday December 13, 2025

Minus 27C this morning. It feels colder though but I guess we're just not used to the cold yet. It might just be a day to stay inside as much as we can.

Friday December 12, 2025

Friday December 12, 2025

It's a wintry kind of day, snow and blowing snow. Temperature is minus 15C but the wind is making it feel like minus 23C. We're not expecting too much snow, maybe a couple of centimetres.

Thursday December 11, 2025

Thursday December 11, 2025

Don ventured on to the lake yesterday, stopping in multiple places to check the depth of the ice. Good news, there's at least 10 inches making the ice good and solid. We haven't had much snow and there isn't much in the forecast.

Tuesday December 9, 2025

Tuesday December 9, 2025

I took this photo as the sun was setting, no tracks on this part of the lake. We've had a few more centimetres of snow and the cold continued so there should be plenty of ice to it may be time to venture out on to it.

Sunday December 6, 2025

Sunday December 6, 2025

Our view this frigid morning. It was minus 25C earlier this morning. Temperatures will warm up early in the week and we may see some accumulation of snow. There's a few tracks on the lakes, mostly from the dogs. Yesterday, Don did check the ice, there's 12 cm (5...

Friday December 5, 2025

Friday December 5, 2025

There was no visible sunrise for us this morning, very low clouds instead. Yesterday, we woke up to minus 19C with a windchill of minus 26C. It certainly was cold. Then, late afternoon an Alberta Clipper blew through dumping some snow but not a huge accumulation. The...

Wednesday December 3, 2025

Wednesday December 3, 2025

After many days of clouds we finally get to see the sun as it's shining off fresh fallen snow. Of course seeing the sun means the temperatures have dropped. It's minus 16C and with a lovely northwest wind gusting to 40km it feels more like minus 23C. Good thing Don...

Tuesday December 1, 2025

Tuesday December 1, 2025

Looking at the lake this morning, one would think there is open water but it's not. We've had a little bit of snow and the strong wind is blowing it off the lake. We'll stay off the lake for a few more days but cold weather is prevailing so it won't be long still the...

Sunday November 30, 2025

Sunday November 30, 2025

Well, we can say the lake froze the end of November. We won't be going out on it any time too soon but with continuing cold temperatures I expect by next weekend we could see how thick the ice is.

Friday November 28, 2025

Friday November 28, 2025

The horses had to use their feet to break the ice along the shoreline this morning as there is a fair bit of ice. The lake isn't completely frozen over just yet. If temperatures continue to be cold we expect likely by December 1st it will be though.

Thursday November 27, 2025

Thursday November 27, 2025

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends! With our colder temperatures you can see the ice beginning to form along the shoreline. Yesterday, Don took his boat out of the water and removed the last of the main dock. There won't be any work done on The Island until...

Tuesday November 25, 2025

Tuesday November 25, 2025

Many of you have probably been wondering just when does the lake freeze? I recently went through my journals and found that there's a wide range, any where from the second week in November to the second week in December. We're thinking that this year, the lake will...

Monday November 24, 2025

This morning's view at sunrise. It was a very calm morning so there was a perfect reflection of the morning sky on the lake. And no that is not ice, that is the reflection of the clouds. We have a perfect fall day in store for us as temperatures will hover around 5C....

Friday November 21, 2025

We'd like to thank Little Otter Resource Management for the many hours they put in gravelling our road. The job is now completed and we're enjoying a much smoother ride into camp. We have a pleasant weekend in store as temperatures will be above the freezing point....

Tuesday November 18, 2025

Tuesday November 18, 2025

Our morning view, heavy fog over the lake, minus 13C. We can see ice beginning to form out in the middle of the lake.

Monday November 17, 2025

Monday November 17, 2025

This morning's sunrise didn't disappoint. Minus 11C but it should warm up to just around the freezing point. We still have one boat in the water so we can get to the island to continue with the work that needs to be completed on the cabin.

Thursday November 13, 2025

Thursday November 13, 2025

The sky didn't disappoint last night as once again the Aurora Borealis were spectacular lighting up the sky. It was a beautiful, clear, calm evening so it was pleasant to be outside taking in the view. We're enjoying the sun this morning. Temperatures are suppose to...

Thursday November 6, 2025

What a beautiful night sky. Not only did we see the full moon, Jupiter but we also saw the Northern Lights. There is something magical when you see a bright sky. It's a chilly morning, minus 7C with flurries in the forecast.

Wednesday November 5, 2025

Wednesday November 5, 2025

Good Morning sunshine! It was a beautiful morning, moon setting in the west while the sun in the east rises. The sun will be short lived as we're expecting clouds to move in later this morning and the wind will pick up as well. Don has been hoping to get the...

Tuesday November 4, 2025

Why a photo of the road you ask? Enough of the potholes we all said. Rocks were crushed and tons of gravel has been spread on the camp road. It's now a much quieter and smoother ride into camp. We hope that next summer, you will like it too.

Tuesday October 28, 2025

Tuesday October 28, 2025

Another day, another sunrise. It's cloudy and windy. Don is hoping to get the side-by-side back from the portage but he has to wait for a calm day. For now he'll just continue to work on the fall list of things.

Monday October 27, 2025

Monday October 27, 2025

This morning's sunrise, beautiful and 6C. We've been working at getting the fall list completed before any bad weather. All docks, except for the main dock are out, most boats are out of the water. Boats were taken out of the water the end of September when there was...

Thursday August 28, 2025

This ominous cloud suggests that someone must have received a pretty good storm. We saw lots of lightning and heard the thunder in the distance. There's a good cloud bank to the south this morning but the forecast isn't predicting rain, should be a nice sunny day,...

Broday likes to outfish his dad, grandpa and grandma. And here's his proof as he shows off this 26inch walleye he caught while fishing the outpost lakes. Hard to believe the summer is winding down. Days are getting shorter, temperatures cooler but there's still plenty...

Monday August 18, 2025

Monday August 18, 2025

Yesterday's southeast wind was strong enough to break our main dock. Luckily it wasn't too difficult to tow it back into place. We have another windy day. This time it's accompanied with clouds and potential for rain. But that shouldn't keep the fishermen off the...

Tuesday August 12, 2025

Tuesday August 12, 2025

Suzie and family not only enjoyed playing in the water, they also enjoyed some fun bass fishing. We have some very big bass in our lakes, fun for everyone. Last nights predicted storm didn't amount to much other than a bit of rain. We were prepared though as we had...

Wednesday August 6, 2025

Congratulations Madison on the great catch, a 28inch walleye. She was determined to return the fish to the water as quickly as possible. Madison is fully aware of the importance of preserving the health of the fisheries. We have a rainy day upon us this morning, makes...

Another monster walleye caught and released while fishing at our Mount Lake Outpost, this time caught by Jeff. We have another smokey morning and it's a chilly morning. Hoping things will warm up for this afternoon.

Tuesday July 29, 2025

Tuesday July 29, 2025

John's second trip this year to catch and release beautiful walleye that will reproduce and fight again. We have a mix of fog and smoke over the lake this morning. The forecast is indicating we will have a pleasant day, not too hot and not too cold. A perfect day for...

Monday July 28, 2025

You might think that someone is taking a Christmas tree home but no, a tree blew down in the first storm yesterday. Luckily there wasn't much damage, Don used the backhoe to lift the tree off the car. We had a second storm late afternoon. This storm produced several...

Sunday July 27, 2025

Saw this snapping turtle at Pettit Lake #1 last night. I think it was looking for dinner. Don't let your catch of the day hang from the dock, because if you do this guy would be happy to indulge. We had quite the storm roll through around 8 this morning. Don was...

Maggie is hooked on fishing especially after landing this northern pike. She's out on the lake this morning hoping to catch some lake trout. We are in a special air quality statement due to smoke for today. We also have a good chance of rain and thunderstorms. Makes...
