Yesterday weather conditions were perfect for the Prescribed Burn which took place 50 km up the 502 Highway by Sakwite Lake. This place was chosen because there had been extensive damage due to a wind storm. The burn will allow for natural regeneration and bring the forest back to a healthy, productive state. I was very lucky to be able to go up in the helicopter to get a bird’s eye view. In this photo you can see the lines of fire that gets strategically ignited from a helicopter. It only took about 3 hours to have the 211 hectare area on fire. The fire will be monitored to make sure there are no flareups.
It’s a windy morning but it looks like we may have today to once again work outside.
