Photo of the Day

Tuesday January 16, 2024

Although the Extreme Cold Weather warning has been dropped it’s still cold. Minus 23C this morning with a bit of a wind made it feel like minus 33C. We were saying this morning that we really haven’t seen much sun these past few months. Usually January is quite sunny but so far we’ve had more clouds.

Hope you can see the sundog in this photo. Sundogs are formed when light passes through crystals of ice that are suspended around 20,000 feet or more in the atmosphere. Ice crystals can also be found closer to the ground in colder temperatures and are called “diamond dust” in meteorological terms.
